Dear
Friends and Partners,
Thirteen years ago this week we brought our second child, Heidi Joy, home from Cook Children's Hospital where she had spent her first 85 days of life in NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). For our family, February 14 is a celebration of life. All the Valentine hearts we see each year are visual reminders that God—an awesome God—healed our little girl's heart with no surgeries!
It was ten days past the due date. "It's a girl," Dr. Guthrie pronounced as he placed a bloody, squirming little body on my wife's stomach. I cut the umbilical cord. Then everything changed. Feeble squeaks rather than healthy cries. Shades of blue, then bluer, then purple rather than pink. Alarms buzzed...People dashed in and out...Tense faces...A blaring silence of human voices.
"This can't be happening—not after the promises from God during my pregnancy. A masterpiece. A miracle. Somebody wake me!" my wife thought. "This has to be a nightmare!"
But it was painfully real. How did we get from point A, a dying infant...to Z, a miracle? What do you do when what you see with your eyes is totally opposite from what God has told you about your situation? How do you watch your child suffer day after day as you wait for the promised miracle?
I remember hearing the shrill beep of Code Blue as Heidi's heart stopped. Heidi's heart, six times the normal size since a valve did not function at birth, had stopped multiple times. Her lungs had collapsed. Her diaphragm was paralyzed. Then the doctors told us: "...there are no viable surgical options!"
Those were intense days of prayer, warfare, and growth. What a journey! But today we are grateful for God's mercy as we enjoy our beautiful, healthy daughter. Just as Heidi's heart was physically healed by Jesus 13 years ago, He continues to heal hearts through the ministry of JESUS Film Harvest Partners. The miracle is equal--one physical and the other spiritual. One gives physical life and the other gives eternal life. Even though it is just a tool, it continues to point people to the healer, Jesus.
With a heart-shaped cake on Valentines Day, we celebrated "Heidi Home Day." Today thousands of people will celebrate coming home for eternity. Hearts will be changed by The Healer. Thanks for being a part of a worldwide global team who prays and supports heart miracles!
Blessings,
Chuck
