How Great Thou Art!
June 2008
Dear Friends & Partners,
|
Last week a JESUS Film Partner Trip group stood at the “Dome of the Rock!” This week I stand on the rock of God’s Word that you and I must be ready for His return. We experienced walking where Jesus walked 2000 years ago; however, His presence was just as real as it was when He was here.
While singing “How Great Thou Art” in a chapel atop Mount Carmel (where Elijah won the contest against the 450 prophets of Baal - See 1 Kings 18), the words took on a whole new meaning. As the words of that great hymn echoed through the chapel, my soul and spirit were moved to new depths to desire more of my heavenly Father.
Another scene from that trip dances across my memory--a young girl sketching chalk art on the sidewalk in front of a church. She laboriously poured herself into her creation as she transformed a cold, gray, slab of concrete into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. At that moment she was being and doing all she knew to do with her artistic talents. She was not playing a role, she was experiencing a role.
So, here are my questions. Am I going through life, playing the role of a relationship with Jesus, or am I experiencing all that He has for me? Am I singing “How Great Thou Art” or am I complaining about things or people in my life? Am I being critical of the church when my own spirit is not where it should be in tune with the Holy Spirit? Do my words declare that my heavenly Father is Lord of my life? Does my life declare that He is indeed Lord? Have I said the right things in my mind and yet my heart is not transformed? It is impossible to truly live in His presence without Him being Lord of my life.
As we showed the JESUS Film, I thought often of your prayers and support which make it possible to share this ministry in 100 countries!
Wherever you are today--whether on the “Dome of the Rock” or drawing sidewalk art--in Jerusalem or your home town--you can experience His presence. And you just might find yourself serenading those around you. “Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee, how great Thou art, how great Thou art!”
