Life is a "Blink"

May 2008

Dear Friends & Partners,

Last Sunday afternoon my son, Sterling, graduated from high school. My wife informed me this week that we had received twenty graduation announcements from family and friends. It is that time of year when we celebrate milestones in our loved ones’ lives. Each is ending a chapter in his life and beginning a new one.

Last weekend as I watched my six-foot son march down the aisle with graduation gown flowing and tassel swinging, the memories flooded my mind. An eight-pound ten-ounce bundle of new life placed in my arms in the delivery room. A tearful first day of kindergarten (my tears, not his). Camping with 500 fathers and sons in the North Woods of upper Michigan. Learning to drive. Mission trips together. A first job. Eighteen years later, here stood this handsome young man before me--completing a major milestone and preparing to embark on a new chapter in his book of life.

I had been told by many at his birth that the time would pass like the blink of an eye. They were right. The blink happened! In God’s time frame the blink of an eye is our whole life (be it 40, 60, 80 or 100 years) as compared to eternity. The question I ask myself (and you) is, “What am I doing with my life?” Am I doing something which has eternal value or am I allowing the minutes and hours and days to drift by so that my “blink” will be of little value in the Kingdom of God?

My challenge to you (no matter what your age) is to make whatever changes are necessary to complete the will of our heavenly Father. Eleven years ago a group of leaders chose to be a part of changing lives around the world when they birthed the ministry called JESUS Film Harvest Partners. As you pray, donate, and use your time for this ministry, you are a part of changing the world for Jesus.

Just as my son graduated last Sunday, today our Father encourages you and me to graduate, to transition, to make needed changes in our own lives. Ask our Father what change He would like for you to make in your life this day. Then ask Him to help you make that change! May your “blink” have eternal value!

Blessings on you,
