Cherish the Eternal
November 2007
Dear Friends & Partners,
Olivia, Rebecca & Scott
Cherish the Eternal
Pray for Complete Healing for Scott |
A recent letter from my friend, Bob, was a poignant reminder of priorities in life.
Bob’s son, Scott, is fighting cancer. Due to his cancer treatments he is having to take anti-seizure treatments now as well. He takes another round of chemo treatments next week.
Bob shared the family’s wonderful times together over the Thanksgiving holidays following this long season of his son's illness. They recognize that God’s mercy is why Scott is with them this year.
But here is what caught my attention from Bob's letter:
“I mention this only because I was reminded again of what really matters in life. When all is said and done the only ‘thing’ that really matters is ‘not a thing.’ All that matters for time and eternity is Jesus, family and friends. As we walk through another Advent season - join me in asking God to enable us to appreciate the temporal blessings but cherish the eternal!”
Even though Bob and his family and friends have been fighting the battle of cancer, his desire to obey and to serve others is still at the top of his priority list.
“All of you have been so faithful in praying for our family over the last several months. Thank you. I sense the Holy Spirit prompting my heart to offer to you the gift of my prayers. I covenant with you to set aside time in December to fast and pray for you. You are my family and my dearest friends. May I come alongside you and bear your burdens with you? I'm not the world's greatest prayer warrior but I have become pretty good at coming to the end of my strength and my wisdom and collapsing in His arms with childlike faith - believing that He will work His will in all I give to Him. If you email me what is heaviest on your heart - I will pray for you!”
Bob has an eternal perspective. His commitment to Jesus, family and friends, and to pray is all about priorities.
During this Christmas season, is your focus on giving “things” or giving “JESUS”? Let’s also join Bob and others in praying for complete healing for Scott.
It is all about the One whose birthday we celebrate. Cherish the eternal.
With a heart to cherish,
