"Could God Forgive Me?"
May 2007
Dear Friends & Partners,
Orphaned Girl - It is estimated that
"Rescued Baby" Orphanage
Setting up for JESUS Film showing |
"Could God ever forgive me for killing my seven baby girls?" She was expecting her eighth and had just heard the story of JESUS and His grace. Our team of 10 wondered why a mother would kill seven baby girls even though we knew that God could and would forgive her.
Then we learned more of her story. In this part of the world, tradition mandates that when a girl marries, her parents must pay a dowry (a large sum of money, property or goods) to the husband’s family for taking her to be his bride. It is a land of arranged marriages. Both sets of parents work out the agreement prior to the wedding when the young man is usually 27 years old or older, and the young girl is between 20 and 23.
In this culture it is more shameful to not have the money for a dowry than it is to kill the baby at birth. The solution—at birth baby girls are immediately drowned in a bucket of boiling water.
As I held an orphaned baby girl later that week, which Christians had paid $70 to rescue, my heart broke. I could not handle knowing that because of pride, shame and a curse, only one such baby is rescued out of about every 1,000.
The hope for the lost world is Jesus. The JESUS Film continues to bring light into some of the darkest “traditions”
in the world. Because of God’s grace and mercy, this mother was forgiven and her baby girl number eight was given a chance for life.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support of this ministry.
Blessings,
