JESUS Film Harvest Partners announces a ministry milestone! - November 10, 2008

More than 50,000,000 encounters with Christ have been reported from teams around the world over the last 11 years. These encounters are face-to-face evangelistic contacts using multiple outreach resources with the JESUS Film being the primary tool. Each encounter is coordinated by God, the heavenly Father, battling for the eternal destiny of one of His beloved. Through the JESUS Film, people are seeing Jesus’ face and hearing Him speak their language, many for the very first time in their lives. In excess of 250 language translations have used in over 100 countries by 322 teams dedicated to reaching the lost with the love of God. The mission of JESUS Film Harvest Partners is to share God’s love with the lost to help fulfill the great commission. Aggressive goals have been established to measure the effectiveness of the ministry including 100 million evangelistic contacts (results to date 50,147,801), 10 million decisions for Christ (to date 8,883,239), 3 million initial discipleship follow ups (to date 2,893,469), 10,000 mission churches/preaching points (to date 17,160) and 10,000 pastors trained/in training (to date 14,000+). Testimonies of new believers include healing of the deaf, freedom from black magic and witchcraft, reconciliation of families, and new lives in Christ. In Bangladesh, communities have renounced the worship of snakes for the true God. In Surname, new believers have seen Jesus before their eyes. In Panama, a young girl in a wheelchair was healed and can now walk. In Pakistan, people risk social alienation to serve Jesus. To read more testimonies like these, sign up at www.JFHP.org for the Prayer & Praise email. Continued prayer for the team members ministering through JESUS Film Harvest Partners is requested.
JESUS Film Harvest Partners Global Teams Report 9 Million New Believers! - February 5, 2009

As of today around the world, 9,018,540 individuals have been introduced to the love of God through JESUS Film Harvest Partners ministry teams. The teams are comprised of three to five nationals who know the language and the customs of the people. The teams travel in assigned geographic areas to show the film, lead the lost to Christ, follow-up with new believers, and before leaving the area, organize new mission churches where believers gather for regular fellowship. Over the last 11years, team members have shared thousands of stories of triumph from across the globe. These stories tell of answers to decade-old prayers, freedom from witchcraft, understanding the love of Christ, salvation following persecution, release from addictions, and hope to the dying, among many others. Read for yourself below:

“The woman prayed 10 years for her husband’s salvation,” said the team member on an island in the Caribbean. “Her husband provided transportation for the JESUS Film team to the next show location. He watched the life of Jesus on the screen and was filled with so much emotion he wept during the show. That day he was the only one who accepted the Lord. Praise God for this new life in Christ!”

“Tatang practiced witchcraft and was powerful in the community,” said the team member in the Philippines. “Many sick people went to him for healing. After watching the JESUS Film, Tatang testified he was convinced Jesus would come again. He received Christ as his Savior, his hope, and his way. Now he plays his guitar during worship services and influences others to know Jesus.”

Julio in Guatemala said, “I saw the film and understood what God did for me. Today I gave my heart to Jesus. My desire is to serve Him with love.”

A JESUS Film team member in Nepal said, “Dhruba was the only Christian in his village 20 years ago. He would preach about Christ on the edge of the river to his friends. When the villagers realized what he was doing, they began to persecute him. His father told him to leave the village or leave Christ, so Dhruba left his village very discouraged. After hearing his story, we took the JESUS Film to his village to show the love of God to the people. The people who hated and persecuted Dhruba 20 years ago now attend regular fellowship meetings and are serving the Lord.”

Peter in Peru testifies, “I was a man without values and an alcoholic. My life was a mess and I fled from reality. I was frustrated with myself because I did not support my family. In the midst of depression and discouragement, I met the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. Now I give thanks to God because I am a new creature in Christ and I have a better life.”

A JESUS Film team member in Sudan shared, “Our team is known for ministering to people and many are coming to Jesus. A dying man with HIV was stigmatized by the disease. He met Jesus while listening to the JESUS Film and sent one of his relatives to ask our team to show him the way of the truth before he died. We went and told him of God’s love for him and that he must repent and be baptized. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Now, even if he dies, his hope is in Jesus. Praise God for finding this suffering man!”

The mission of JESUS Film Harvest Partners is to share God’s love with the lost to help fulfill the Great Commission. Aggressive goals have been established to measure the effectiveness of the ministry, including recording the first 10 million decisions for Christ by 2010. If you desire to be part of this worldwide evangelist effort, JESUS Film Harvest Partners welcomes your partnership to reach the lost. Here are some ways you can get involved: § Pray for the safety of the 360 teams around the world sharing the story of JESUS.
Operation Proclamation - Every Heart Hearing Every Word - nazarene.org

Children's Ministries, Church of hte Nazarene, is raising financial support for this exciting program through the 2008 VBS offering. Jesus Christ speaks to the hearts of all Christians through His Word. There are places in our world where many pre-literate children are not able to read God’s Word. When kids give money to the Operation Proclamation Project, they can change the lives of children who want to hear Jesus speak to them through God’s Word. This mission offering will place Proclaimers into these pre-literate areas of the world. Kids can hear and respond to the Good News of God’s awesome love for the WHOLE world! The Proclaimer is a self-contained, audio Bible. Each proclaimer has a micro chip, programmed in the language of the listener. The Proclaimer can be powered through four sources--electric, battery, solar, and by hand crank, making it usable anywhere.
For more information visit: http://www.nazarene.org/ministries/ssm/children/programs/vbs/offering/display.aspx

1,400 in PNG Learn About Jesus in the Tok Pisin Language - ncnnews.com 3-28-2008

During the second week in March, Papua New Guinea (PNG) missionaries Becky Morsch and Judy Bennett went to Dusin in the Middle Ramu District of PNG to continue training the pastors and laypeople of this remote mountain region in community based health care. They also took JESUS Film equipment to be used throughout the district during the following year.

There are no roads in this rugged area. The only way to reach it is by walking or utilizing Mission Aviation Fellowship’s bush plane from Mt. Hagen. Many of the people who had come to be trained had walked two and three days to reach the church where the meetings were held.

While there, Morsch taught locals how to operate the equipment as they would be keeping it in their area for the next year. It was a challenge for the people to learn to run the equipment as they had never known it existed before Morsch’s arrival; they had never owned a television set and had never held a remote control.

Sunday night, March 16, the team began preparing the equipment to show the JESUS Film. They started this process at 3 P.M. because they wanted everything to be ready for the service.

The team ran into problems. First, the generator wouldn't run, next the DVD player stopped working, and then the projector wouldn’t stay on. Finally, everything decided to shut off all at once. The team quickly realized there wasn't really a problem with the equipment. They stopped to pray. According to Bennett, these Christians are "mighty prayer warriors. God touched the equipment and it all began working at the same time."

The people began gathering. The church building where the film was shown would have a 300-person capacity limit were it in the U.S. In PNG, however, there were over 1,400 men, women, and children packed into the space. Bennett reports there was literally no ground showing. There were benches lining the sides of the room, but the middle and back sections had people sitting on the floor. The windows were also full of faces.

The film began. The film was translated into in Tok Pisin, the language most people understand in PNG. Bennett reports it was incredibly moving. One pastor stood on the side and translated to Tok Ples, his congregations’ local language.

“We got to the crucifixion scene and so many were sobbing that District Superintendent Elijah asked the team to stop the film so people could come forward to pray,” recalls Bennett. “It was like a flood! Some of the little children had fallen asleep. Parents and brothers and sisters were dragging them out of the way so people could get to the altar because there was literally no ground to step on. Women began climbing over the benches behind Becky and me to get to the altar.”

The altars were lined 15 people deep across the front of the church sanctuary. Prayers could be heard in Tok Pisin, "Papa God i bin kapsaitim Holi Spirit long mipela" or “God poured out his Spirit on us!”

The prayers of the people lasted for a long time, Bennett recalls. When needs were met, the film began again—just in time for Jesus’ resurrection.

Houston Living Word church draws 400 to outdoor JESUS Film showing on Halloween - NCN News 11-5-07

In January 2007, a group of seven individuals from Houston Living Word Church of the Nazarene met to pray together about supporting JESUS Film/Harvest Partners (JFHP).

While praying, this group sensed God calling them to partner together with JFHP to sponsor a World Challenge with a goal to raise $500,000. A World Challenge is a fund-raising dinner presentation designed to communicate how God is working around the world through the JESUS Film.

If successful, statistics say that 1,500,000 people will hear the gospel message and 166,000 people will come to faith in Jesus Christ. The months following were filled with praying, planning, communicating, and giving financially.

As a result, the group sensed God saying, "Don't just support this ministry financially, participate in it yourself."

The church began to dream about showing the JESUS Film in their parking lot the week of the World Challenge, scheduled for November 2, 2007. However, the group had always heard the JESUS Film was only successful on the mission field. How would they get people to come to an outdoor film?

Two members of the church were able to attend a JESUS Film trip to Ecuador in July 2007. On the trip, these individuals saw how the film successfully reached the people with the salvation message. Two hours before the show began, the JESUS Film team went out into the neighborhoods and invited the people to come to the film. The individuals expressed how it seemed so easy because the people in Quito, Ecuador, were outside their homes almost waiting to be asked to attend.

They said it was at this time God revealed his plan to reach the unchurched in Houston. They were to use the one night of the year in the U.S. when people walk around the streets—Halloween. On a night associated with darkness, the church brought the light of Jesus into its community.

On October 31, 2007, Houston Living Word Church of the Nazarene had a Trunk or Treat in their parking lot and showed two simultaneous showings of the JESUS Film (one in Spanish and one in English) at two locations on their property. In total, over 400 people, with many kids in costume, attended the JESUS Film showing and 25 individuals gave their hearts to Jesus. Initial discipleship contacts to all 25 were planned for the following night.

Through many evangelical strategies, including the JESUS Film, the Church of the Nazarene is seeing expansive growth in the Amazon. The missionaries went to Boa Vista to visit two couples who were members of their church in Manaus. Using the opportunity for evangelism, the couples invited 18 friends and neighbors to their homes—4 accepted Christ.

The missionaries will be making the 500 mile journey each month to work with this group and organize this new, future Church of the Nazarene. Plans are also underway for JESUS Film showings in and around the area of this new group of believers.

Upstate New York team makes an impact in Uruguay - NCN News 10-26-07

This equipment included a large roll-up screen made of parachute material, a projector, laptop computer, and projector table. The JESUS Film on DVD—which includes various versions designed to appeal to a variety of age groups—was also part of the equipment delivered. A very old, heavy, and bulky 16 millimeter projector and its original JESUS Film version filled with many splices, was finally put to rest. The new, lightweight equipment with the DVD format can more easily be transported between locations. On the evening of October 17, the new equipment was used in the urban community of Matuina, Uruguay. The showing was directed to the children of Matuina, using the new children’s version of the film. Many came forward after the showing and received salvation tracks provided by JESUS Film team members. Multiple names and addresses were gathered for follow-up providing workers the opportunity to minister to the youth. The following evening, a youth rally was conducted at the same site. This time, the equipment was used to project song lyrics for the young audience. Both events were held on the construction site of the new Matuina Church of the Nazarene whose pastor is Gabriel. His wife, who also pastors another nearby congregation, is the national JESUS Film coordinator for Uruguay. The Owego team arrived in Uruguay not only to deliver the equipment, but to build the walls of the new church in Matuina. However, it was the desire of this team to work and to witness. This team was blessed to have six people serve as interpreters, including the Argentina Work and Witness Team Coordinators. The first Sunday morning was used to minister to the children of Matuina. The program was presented by three group members who all speak Spanish fluently. All team members took an active part in this ministry by working with the children using tools such as the EvangeCube. This unique tool was instrumental in presenting the gospel to one young boy who had come to watch the JESUS Film. After understanding the message each picture presented, he gave his heart to the Lord. Salvation bracelets, which were made by the children at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Rochester, New York, were also used in presenting the gospel to the children in attendance. The Owego team was made up of members from Owego, Auburn, Ithaca, and Calvary Community Nazarene churches in the Upstate New York District.

India's NYC follow-ups engage more youth - Where Worlds Meet, October 2007

India--More than 600 young people left Pune, India in May after South Asia's fourth semi-annual field youth conference (NYC), but the event was never intended to end there. Youth leaders always planned to hold follow-up seminars in local churches, having discovered how important this is to discipleship. Since August, field NYI leaders have been hosting one-day events at local churches in two India districts and are moving on to more this month. At each site, they teach seminars on Christian Holiness, NYI responsibilities, career guidance for those interested in ministry, personal relationships; leaders are also introducing Bible Quizzing to some areas. But while the seminars were intended as an extension of NYC, they've taken on a life of their own as many new faces have gathered with the original participants. The first site welcomed 82 people, only 35 of whom had been at the event in Pune. After the seminars, leaders baptized 11 young people who came to Christ through Jesus Film showings in the area, three of whom had been at NYC. They also took a few days to visit the homes of several local young people.

In one village, they met a young man who had attended NYC only at his mother's request. "He was very upset when he came to Pune," said the South Asia Field NYI Coordinator, "but when I met him in his house he said, 'Thanks for having that youth program, and for inviting me. I never thought we had so many young people like me and many of them serving Lord through different kind of ministries. I was never interested in church or any kind of church events but Jesus saved my life in NYC. Now I am attending all the events and services in and outside the church.'"

Another mother thanked the team because her son also began attending church after the NYC. One local leader reported growth in his local youth ministry since the conference, and said youth are becoming more involved in their local churches; the fourth location shocked the traveling team when three times the number of expected participants came.

"When I asked why these people were also here, when they were not in Pune, I got the answer: 'These people are from the same families [of those who attended the NYC]. They came here with their brothers or sisters or with any other family members and friends. We got 30 new NYI members after the NYC.'" The South Asia Field NYI Coordinator will visit four more sites in India this month, chipping away at the remaining districts over the next year. The plan is to introduce youth to the Global NYI Charter and give an introduction to Christian Holiness, encouraging youth for life and ministry.

Beauty Salon Site of JESUS Film Showings - Out of Africa 5-21-07

In December 2006, Antoinette, a house of prayer leader, was invited to a local beauty salon where she showed the JESUS Film in the Wolof language to two men who understood the language but did not seem interested in follow up. The owner, however, was very interested and asked to see the film in English. Five men attended who spoke English. They were touched by the film and asked if we could return each week to share more about the story of Christ. These men have been asking many questions as the story of God from creation to the fulfilment of the promise of a Saviour has been presented each week while customers enter the shop. One of the younger men began attending our church this past month. Two weeks ago he gave his life to the Lord and I am now discipling this new believer. The salon has become a focus of outreach to the English speakers living in a French world and a door of ministry for me while I am still learning the French language. Pray that God will open the hearts of Ousman and others, and that the door will continue to be open for us to share Christ in this location. We believe it will become a strong house of prayer as a local pastor and I minister to these men each week.

JESUS Film team near ground zero - NCN News 4-5-07

A Nazarene missionary in the Solomon Islands, said Nazarenes in the affected areas are alive, but are displaced and in need of help.

He reported a JESUS Film team (JFT), after completing several successful showings in the islands, was at a wharf in Gizo waiting for their ship when the earthquake struck. A huge tidal wave swept over the wharf and into the market and town buildings.

The missionary, who was in the capital of Honiara at the time of the earthquake, approximately 200 miles to the southeast of Gizo, described the experience as it was told to him by the JFT:

"At 7:00 A.M., [JFT members] Jimmy, Hudson, and Revelation took the JESUS Film equipment to the wharf to wait for a ship to Honiara. Jimmy [called me] and asked what ship I booked their return passage on. I told him and we hung up. Jimmy and the team went to have coffee in the restaurant nearby.

"Then, at 7:30 or thereabouts, the earthquake of 8.1 magnitude struck and it lasted for several minutes. Their coffee cups fell to the floor and they could hardly stand up as they were essentially at ground zero. Many people were crawling. Jimmy told his team, 'Let's go get the JF equipment.'

"The ground had broken up at the wharf and there was a hole made from the quake. People told Jimmy to get back. Jimmy was worried about his equipment, but before he could move too far he said a huge wall of water developed out of nowhere and swept across the wharf. He said there was no big wave coming. He said the earthquake hit and within a couple minutes this tide rose and flooded the land. Jimmy and Hudson dove into the sea to rescue the equipment, which was now filled with water and very heavy.

"At about 7:50, Jimmy called again and told me, 'We are in trouble now, a big tidal wave washed ashore and the whole town is destroyed.' I talked to him for a while, trying to comfort him and telling him I was glad he was alive. Before he called they had already rescued most of the equipment, so everything happened very fast. The JF equipment is like his baby, but I told him that all of that is replaceable and comforted him as best I could.

"The JFT then went along with the entire town to find higher ground."

Miller later reported the team's projection table, a bag of electric cables, and some light fixtures were swept out to sea. Also, some speakers were filled with water and may be significantly damaged, along with a generator.

Nazarene Community School in Zambia an uncommon example - NCN News 3-16-07

The beginning of the Kanyama West Church of the Nazarene is considered common in Africa. A showing of the JESUS Film in the western section of the Kanyama Compound in Lusaka, Zambia brought together dozens of local people to make commitments to Christ, and those new Christians needed a church.

Pastor Benson started the church in his home. The church grew and quickly expanded to a nearby building. With the aid of a Work and Witness team and Alabaster funds, the church moved to its current home. It is easily identified as a Church of the Nazarene by the Nazarene emblem above the door, wooden benches, and a large cross at the front.

Soon after starting the church, the pastor and his wife, Margaret, began to notice the children were not attending school. This is not uncommon in Zambia; parents and caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children are not able to pay the high government school fees to send their children to school. Instead, they must rely on lessons learned in the home and the children must start working at a young age to help support their family.

The couple decided this would not be the case for the children of the Kanyama West church. In 2000, they opened their home to 30 nursery and preschool children who were orphans and vulnerable children of the community. The class size quickly grew to more than 70, outgrowing the home.

The school moved to the church building across the street and within three months, enrolment reached 110 children. Two volunteer teachers were brought in to help. The students were charged a price roughly one percent of what they would pay for government schooling. By late 2001, enrolment was at 300 for first through third grades. When the overwhelmed pastor and his wife saw how positively they were affecting the community with their school, they applied to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries/Helping Hands Africa (NCM/HHA) for help.

With the aid of HHA, the Nazarene Community School expanded to another building adjacent to the church. Presently, 7 teachers welcome 582 children in 11 classes from preschool to seventh grade, and they hope to soon move to a nearby building and expand to eighth and ninth grades. In 2006, 11 students sat for the seventh grade exam. Eight of the 11 passed--a high percentage for a non-government school, and an accomplishment that made the teachers incredibly proud.

The community school is changing the lives of the children.

The couple opened a tailoring shop inside their home as well. Using cloth donated to HHA and sent to Kanyama, nine widows work on donated sewing machines to make school uniforms, traditional outfits, and other garments for sale. The children of the widows attend the school. Many of them have come to know Jesus through working with Margaret in her home and seeing the spirit with which this coupple live their lives in Christ. Faced with the difficulties of their community, they could have given up. Instead, because of their faith in Jesus Christ, they started a school and opened a tailoring business in their home that helps widows feed their families.

They have shown an interest in their community--this is what makes their story an uncommon story. When asked how they accomplished all they have in a short time, Benson simply answers, "By God's Grace." When asked why they've worked so hard to make their community a better place, he answers, "For the Glory of God."

As one spends time with him, they learn that his constant smile and cheerful laughter is infectious. If his faith is infectious as well, the future of Kanyama is in good hands.
